Dog Section

Dog Section Officer and dog

Lincolnshire Police Dog Section provides 24hr operational cover to the county, operating with a Sergeant and 16 Handlers, supported by 2 full time trainers and kennel staff.

The majority of officers on the Section operate two dogs, a general purpose Police dog (normally a German Shepherd or Malinois) and a search dog (Spaniel, Collie or Labrador), trained to locate a specific scent.

The Dog Teams are available to be deployed anywhere in the county. Officers and Control Room staff should contact the on duty dog team if they are unsure whether or not to deploy a dog to an incident. This will ensure that dog handlers have an early input and can make a positive contribution towards locating and detaining offenders.

The majority of our general purpose dogs now come from the force's own successful breeding programme, but the Dog section is always looking for gift dogs, or if a dog has the correct aptitude, they will consider purchasing it.

Search dogs are always difficult to locate and Sgt Paul Cragg asks that if anyone becomes aware of potential search dog which needs re-homing, then please contact the Dog section.
