The intention of Operation NOVA - which represents saying NO to Violence and Abuse - is to reduce alcohol related anti-social behaviour and reduce the violence in the night time economy. In February 2010 the drive to reduce domestic abuse was added as the third target of Operation NOVA.
In this video Keith Smy - Assistant Chief Constable (Safer Neighbourhoods) - explains more about Operation NOVA.
What is Anti Social Behaviour? Behaviour by an individual or group that results in: (1) Another party feeling personally threatened (2) Creating a public nuisance, or (3) A detrimental impact upon the environment and thereby has a detrimental effect upon the quality of life of an individual or the community as a whole.
Domestic abuse is a crime that cuts across all social, cultural and religious boundaries. Nationally, one in four women will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lives as will one in six men; with the police receiving a call about domestic abuse every minute in the UK. Two women are murdered every week in England and Wales at the hands of their partners or ex-partners. Lincolnshire Police actively encourages the reporting of domestic abuse and will take all such reports seriously and works with a number of partner agencies to address domestic abuse.
