We use Google Maps technology for all the interactive maps on this website. Many of you will have already seen or used Google Maps before, so using our maps should be quite familiar. If you haven't used Google Maps before don't worry, here are a some tips for using the maps on our website.
The Basics
Moving The Map
Click the direction arrows on the map control at the top left corner of a map to move or 'pan' the map in that direction. You can also click and drag the map to move it around.
Zooming In And Out
Our maps allow you to zoom in to get a closer view of an area, or zoom out to see a larger area on the map. Click the plus or minus on the map control to zoom in or out, or drag the slider on the map control to the zoom level you need. If your mouse has a scroll wheel you can use that to zoom in and out.
Map Markers
Markers pinpoint specific places on the map. Hover your mouse cursor over a marker to get more information about that place. Clicking on a marker will open a 'speech bubble' which usually shows you even more information such as an address or links to related web pages.
Map Overlays
We use overlays (which appear as shaded areas) on our maps to show you things like the exact area a Neighbourhood Policing Team covers.
Map Problems
Map Not Showing
The maps on this website use Google Maps technology. Google Maps work in most popular web browsers, but if you are viewing the site on an old or unusual browser you might not be able to see our maps. See a list of browsers that work with Google Maps on the Google website.
Map Loads Slowly
When you open a map page, the map itself and any extra information such as markers or overlays needed on the map is loaded too. If a lot of extra information is needed on the map it may take longer than usual to display. The speed of your web connection will also affect how quickly a map loads.
